For this project, I aimed to depict coral exoskeletons or "hard" corals. Corals have become a significant part of my life as I recall memories of my father bringing these mysteriously pervasive, natural structures home from the beach. These growing organisms pervade my environment and I wanted to represent this through a wearable sculpture/fashion harness inspired by Iris Van Herpen's avant-garde garments. Using Autodesk MAYA I created a design that is calculated onto the human body while still exhibiting independent curves and formations. From a side profile, the piece looks as if emanating from the wearer, metaphorically representing the merging of these two organisms. I chose the use of fishing wire because it creates a thin, almost invisible effect. This allows the piece to look as if connected to the body, meant to be there floating among humanity's curves.
