This wedding dress incorporates the repurposing of materials in a sustainable way, including the up-cycling of bubble wrap, garbage bags, fabric scraps, bleached denim, and shoelaces to carry out the design. Maintaining the encompassing theme of observation of the natural world, I took inspiration mainly from Florida’s mangrove and strangler fig trees which allowed the development of organic form within the design. This piece also includes a biodegradable belt which I created using 3D printing and then later connected onto the dress with shoelaces. I aimed to re-imagine concepts involving fashion design to rather merge the figure with nature itself, thus incorporating non-renewable materials which would otherwise cause harm to the environment, are instead transformed into a fashion garment. 2018, 2020 Adaptation.
