These two pieces were made by up-cycling men’s button down shirts to achieve the concept of reconstruction. With up-cycling it is a given that one will deconstruct a garment that has already lived through the fashion cycle. I aimed to celebrate garment reconstruction by creating scaffolding to the human figure using elements such as stuffing that allowed me to form protruding tubes that I then shaped accordingly around my wonderful models. I was looking closely at design characteristics followed by Rei Kawakubo— specifically in “Art of the In-Between” exhibition— where she masterfully combined curvilinear forms with structural elements. Then, my garments made it onto the runway of a collective youth fashion show that I put together in collaboration with my peers!
